A welcomed visitor on my last weekend!

It is officially, official!

It is Monday, August 15th.  I just returned home from a great week in Acadia, one of my favorite islands.  I actually think about it as the northern version of the Caribbean.  I had an email from Randy, the VIERS administrator, when I got home asking if I had booked my flight. This was my final green light. I have been looking at flight information for the last two months not quite willing to make the travel arrangement. It has not changed much and continues to be very reasonable.  So, I took the plunge and booked a flight leaving Boston on September 23rd at 8am.
Now I must make the real preparations.  Should I leave my little house vacant, waiting for me to return mid December?  Should I try a short term rental or some kind of house sitting arrangement? How will I arrange my finances so my bills get paid and so do I while I am away.  How will I communicate with my friends and family.  What should I take?  Should I carry it or ship it ahead of me.  Do I need special medical insurance?
Now I must try and imagine how I will adjust to my dramatic lifestyle change.  No demands of being a college faculty or program director each day.  How will I find meaning in each day, in each month, in my life?  Can I sustain my health and optimistic attitude toward life?  How will I incorporate activity, find new rituals, meet new people, explore new places for the next few months. How will I handle total lack of the routine that I have been used to for so many years?
All these are questions and many more, I will likely find the answers to in the near future. They may be pleasant surprises or shocks but they will come to me one way or another.
I have moments of pure panic and then I have moments of incredible excitement at the prospects ahead.
So begins my first freelance adventure.... "keep you posted"
